A Fully Foster-Based Husky and Wolfdog Rescue of Colorado

🐾 About Cavalli’s Rescue

Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue is Colorado’s first PACFA-licensed, 501(c)(3), fully foster-based Wolfdog rescue — a model built around safe containment, decompression, behavioral support, and ethical, responsible placement.

Based in El Paso County and operating across Colorado, we rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Huskies and Wolfdogs who too often fall through the cracks due to misunderstanding, surrender, or immediate euthanasia risk in shelters.

Named in honor of Cavalli — a beloved Husky whose spirit inspired our mission — the rescue is built on the belief that quality of care matters more than quantity of intakes. We are intentionally growing slowly, thoughtfully, and sustainably, with a commitment to:

  • real-home foster environments
  • individualized rehabilitation
  • secure, ethical containment
  • lifelong commitment to every dog we place
  • education that reduces surrender and stigma

Every step we take is designed to do rescue right — one dog, one person, and one safe second chance at a time.

💙 Our Mission

To protect, advocate for, and provide safe, loving second-chance homes to Huskies and Wolfdogs through a foster-based model that prioritizes individualized care, enrichment, and responsible placement.

We prepare both the animals — and their people — for lifelong success through behavioral understanding, rigorous vetting, foster support, and community education, with a strong emphasis on proper wolfdog ownership, containment, and advocacy.

👋 About the Founder

Hi, I’m Leah — founder of Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue.
Huskies have been part of my life for over 20 years, and my connection to wolves runs even deeper (yes… I was the kid howling on the playground). 🐺

My journey in rescue began in Charlotte, NC, where I fostered, transported, and supported high-needs dogs across the U.S. But everything changed when I met Nancy and the team at Full Moon Farm Wolfdog Sanctuary. That experience opened my eyes to how few safe, ethical options exist for wolfdogs — and how often they are euthanized simply because there is nowhere appropriate for them to go.

After moving to Colorado, I saw the same gap here — a complete absence of a legitimate, licensed Wolfdog rescue prepared to responsibly place companion-bred wolfdogs into real homes.

So I decided to build one from the ground up.

Cavalli’s Rescue reflects everything I’ve learned, everything I’ve lived, and everything I believe these animals deserve: safety, compassion, understanding, and a true pathway forward.

🧩 How We Operate

Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue is a fully foster-based nonprofit, intentionally designed to provide the individualized, home-based care that Huskies and Wolfdogs need to succeed.

We are actively growing a network of trusted foster homes statewide, each meeting strict safety and containment requirements appropriate for high-intelligence, high-drive breeds.

Because we believe in responsible growth, our intake remains limited while we build the infrastructure needed to serve safely:

  • outdoor wolfdog-safe enclosures for decompression
  • adequate funding for medical care and transport
  • a robust foster network across Colorado
  • volunteer and community partnerships
  • sustainable long-term systems to support the model

Our founder’s private property serves as the rescue’s starting point, with secure enclosures in development for short-term decompression housing before dogs transition into long-term foster care.

In alignment with state regulations, each approved foster location — including the founder’s home — is limited in the number of animals it can house at one time. We currently focus on puppies and young adults and will expand to adults as more foster homes and safe outdoor spaces become available.

We believe ethical rescue is built on transparency, safety, and sustainability — and we are committed to growing with intention, not speed.

🐾 Thank You for Being Part of This Beginning

We are deeply grateful for every person who believes in our mission.
Together, we are building a safe, responsible network of second chances —
one paw, one person, and one life at a time.
